   Lent 1



Symbols - stones, bread, & open bible

Matthew 4 v3 & 4
Then the Devil came to him and said
"If you are God's son, order these stones to turn into bread." But Jesus answered
"The scripture says man shall not live by bread alone but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
 
       
  Lent 2



Symbols - Small wooden cross, hammer, nails & red ribbon

Mark 8 v34 & 35
If anyone wants to follow me he must first forget about himself, take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it but whoever is willing to lose his life for My sake and the Gospel will be saved
 
       
     Lent 3



Symbols - Upturned stool, cord belt whip & money

Matthew 21 v12 & 13
Jesus went into the temple and drove out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the stools of those who sold pigeons and said to them "It is written my temple shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves."

Mothering Sunday


Symbols - Red heart, globe, small wooden cross & feather

John 3 v16 & 17
For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved.
 
       
 
Lent 5
Passion Sunday


Symbols - Jar of perfume, piece of hair & something to give a perfumed smell as people pass.

John 12 v 3, 4, 5 & 7
Then Mary took a jar of expensive perfume, poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped them with her hair. And the sweet smell of the perfume filled the whole house. And Judas said “Why wasn’t this sold and the money given to the poor?” And Jesus said “Let her alone, she has done beautiful things to prepare me for the day of my burial.”
 
       
  Palm Sunday



Symbols - Cloak & palm leaves

Matthew 21 v 8 & 9
A large crowd of people spread their cloaks on the road whilst others cut down palm branches off the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds walking in front of Jesus and those behind shouted out “Praise to David’s Son! God bless him who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest.”
 
       
   Maundy Thursday



Symbols - bowl with water, towel, broken bread,
goblet of wine.

John 13 v 4 & 5
Jesus rose from the table, took off his outer garments and tied a towel round his waist. Then he poured some water into a bowl and proceeded to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel.
 
       
  Easter Day


The Easter Garden at the foot of the Cross

The bare cross, now covered with wire mesh,
is decorated with brightly coloured handmade
flowers by all the members of the congregation

Each person present makes one and inserts it
into the wire mesh during both the 8am and 10am Eucharist services.
